Weather Briefing created by: webmaster@nwarwx.com

Showers and thunderstorms developed across northwest Arkansas this afternoon. Additional scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and continue into the early evening hours. Like Yesterday, any of the storms that form will have the potential to become strong to marginally severe with strong gusty winds the main concern. Locally heavy rain will also be possible due to the slow movement of the storms and the moisture rich atmosphere in place across the region.

Meanwhile, another thunderstorm complex is expected to develop over Kansas tonight and potentially move into northwest Arkansas Friday. Additional thunderstorms will be possible later Friday into Friday night as a weather disturbance in the developing northwesterly flow aloft affects the region. Will keep low end rain chances in the forecast for Saturday into early Saturday night before the upper level ridge of high pressure builds firmly into northwest Arkansas from the southwest. This will then keep the forecast dry from Sunday into the middle of next week thanks to the upper level ridge of high pressure.

...This Day in Weather History...

In 2011, 2 to 4 inches of rain fell across northwest Arkansas. At Prairie Grove, 6.62 inches of rain fell in 24 hours.
